Best Portable Solar Generators – Ideal For Camping

Acopower 400wh portable solar generatorOh, the luxuries of home while away from home! I love going camping but I also miss the luxury of home when I’m out camping. That’s where a portable solar generator comes in. No need to worry about electricity or propane and gas sources. All you need is one thing that’s all around you when you are outside.

That one thing is the sun. By harnessing the sun’s rays you can produce the energy you need to run some things you use at home which you take for granted when you are in the great outdoors. Camping is a fun and relaxing pastime but when you bring along one of the best portable solar generators that you can buy it’s even more so.

Today I’m going to review one of the best portable solar generators on the market. This generator is ideal for camping or any time you are going on long trips in an RV or car. So, without further ado lets jump into the review.

Introducing The ACOPOWER 400Wh Portable Solar Generator

An excellent choice is the acopower 400Wh a solar portable generator. The cheapest place to buy this product is on Amazon.com and it goes for $422.49. The power supply storage is a lithium-ion battery which can be charged with a solar panel, cars with 300 watt AC pure sine wave investors or AC outlet.

So, there are 3 ways of charging the battery this makes it a very versatile portable generator. Another awesome feature that I like about this generator is that you can jump-start your vehicle with it! This would come in handy if you were stalled alongside the road. It comes with a cord to do this with.

The only thing this generator doesn’t come with is the solar panel itself but you can purchase that separately on Amazon.com for $305.99. Otherwise, you can just use the acopower generator by hooking it up to your vehicles DC power source or an AC power supply to charge the lithium battery.

Charging Of The Battery

The charging speed on this portable generator with solar panels is 4 to 5 hours. If using the ac and dc methods it only takes seconds. Here are a few various ways to charge the Battery.

  1. 100 Watt Acopower PV Panel – a solar panel that plugs into the portable generator and can be purchased on Amazon.
  2. 120 Watt Acopower Solar Panel – this is another more expensive solar panel. Comes with a suitcase for easy hauling.
  3. AC 110V Wall Outlet – Just plug it rights into the outlets in your home and your good to go.
  4. DC Car Charger – Plug it into your car charger and your all set to go.

That’s it with the charging of the battery. Rather, self-explanatory if going with the solar panels just read the instructions and you will be energized in no time and ready to go on that long awaited camping trip!

This generator comes with:

  • 4 USB ports for phones and pads (two 1.0A, two 2.1A which is much faster
  • MPPT charge regulator
  • AC/DC inverter
  • 2 DC Ports for lighting
  • 300w (Pure Sine Wave) AC 110V inventors for home electronics charging with low losses
  • 1 jump starter port for a 12V 4L gas car as well as a self-protective system
  • 1 cigarette lighter socket for mini fridge/air compressor

Included in Package

Here’s what’s included in the package when you purchase the Acopower 400Wh Portable Solar Generator:

  • Vehicle charging cable
  • Portable power supply
  • Jump starter clamps
  • User manual and new-added messenger bag
  • Solar charging cable
  • 2-year warranty
  • Technical support and excellent customer service with 100% satisfaction guarantee

Portability

The portability of this generator is outstanding. Weighing in at 12.3lbs now that is lightweight even an 8-year old could haul this thing around. Very mini size built in a high energy lithium-ion battery, this is safer than a Li-ion battery which a lot of portable solar generators use. It has more of a storage ability, actually 1.5 times that of other lithium batteries.

There’s also an LCD screen that shows the battery’s capacity, with charge/discharge and error status. It has discharging and overcharging protection plus short-circuit protection as well. Lightweight and sturdy everything you would want in a portable generator.

Designed For Camping

This generator specifically designed for family camping trips with RV or tent camping in mind. With a 400Wh capacity will run most of your families devices which most of the watts will probably be consumed by your teenagers LOL! Seriously with a DC 12V 120W vehicle output can be used for the car refrigerator or other devices, Two AC 110V outputs that share 300 watts you can’t go wrong.

On a full charge, you can support 7 hours for a tablet or laptop usage, 13 hours for 30 – 60w mini fridge. You can go 15 hours on an electric fan, 18 hours on 20w light, 19 hours on an iPad mini, 160 hours 2w electric razor and 100 hours on a smartphone. Pretty good power for a small portable solar generator.

  1. I was never expecting to come across a website which reviews only portable generators. Thanks Cory for the work you have done to create such a gem. Now coming to the discussion on ACOPOWER 400Wh Portable Solar Generator I was wondering whether it can generate power even under overcast skies and how much time the solar panel you mentioned in your article need to charge the batteries fully? What will be its size etc.

    Gee Ess

    • Charging time for this portable generator is about 4 to 5 hours. It’s small in size  9 x 5.5 x 9.6 in. with a weight about 12 lbs . It will charge under overcast skies but you will only get about have the wattage out of it. Hope this helped.

  2. This may be just what I am looking for, I am currently building a slide out camping unit in a van for a friend. I was wondering how I was going to give him some power for lights and his laptop. I was also planning to  to use a manual water pump to fill the wash tub for cleaning up dishes but I am now thinking that I could go with an electric pump ? I guess the only thing I would need to add other than a solar panel would be an inverter … any suggestions /

  3. Man this thing seams awesome. I use to camp a lot for about a whole week twice a year. With this baby camping would have been greater than what it already was.

I would like to know if you Are able to plug more then one solar panel to get it to charge faster. Also, what the size of the genreator is. Maybe I missed it on your post but I know that sometimes images can make an item look larger or smaller then what they really are. My last question is by any chance do you know where I can see a video of it or somethig that can show me how it would work. Thank you in advamce.

    Awesome post by the way!

    • You can chain more than one solar panel to this unit but you don’t want to exceed 120w. This portable generator is mini in size 9 x 5.5 x 9.6 in. I will post a video demonstration of this generator to the bottom. Thanks for the questions if you need more information feel free to ask away.

  4. Camping is so much fun and you are right, even more so when you can have a taste of the luxury from home, as that is one thing I also long for after a while – the comforts of home.

These generators are a great asset to any camping trip, and it’s wonderful that some come with solar panels for charging, as often when you camp there is no electricity and sometimes not even a car battery available.

I also like the fact that you can even charge your phones and other electronics. Camping nowadays has certainly upgraded from what it used to be.

  5. Hello Cory and thank you for this informative article. It was a pleasure reading it. I am planning on going camping for one week in one mountain resort 200 km from the place where I live. I am searching for a good portable generator and i am so glad that I bumped into your website.

ACOPOWER seems like the perfect fit. Not too pricey but with great performance. Exactly what I would need. I am going to check out the offer on Amazon and make a purchase.

    Thank you for this.

    • This generator would be perfect for mountain camping like the camping your going to be doing. If you do use the acopower camping let us know how you liked it or vise versa. Thank you reading.

  6. I was so pleased to come across your review of this portable generator. I love camping, but don’t go often because I can’t bring my laptop with me to do my work since I typically camp in the “primitive” areas without electricity. This generator along with a solo panel could be the answer to my prayers! I might never come back to civilization!!

About how long does one of the batteries last? I see you put approximate hours for usage, but I wonder about the batteries life? Thanks and I look forward to your reply.

    • Hello Karin, It all depends on often you use the battery but I would say with average usage it should last 5 to 10 years.

  7. ohhh i love camping, and more when I go with a few very good friends. I also love technology and luxuries as well, I cannot live without technology. That is why I always want to bring a generator with me. I will give this a try, it looks good and with so has so many amazing features!

What a shame that the generator doesn’t come with the solar panel. But it is not big deal to buy them separately

  8. Hello Cory,

I found the ideal product to accompany my fishing trips on the beach.

I find it very interesting that it is very light and above all that it can start our van in case of battery failure.

Your portable solar generator also has an economical price.

I will consult with my fishing friends and then make the purchase.

    Excellent review! Claudio
